Welcome to our FAQs.
1. What can I expect in my first therapy session?
Your first session is a chance for us to get to know each other. We'll explore what brings you to therapy, check your state of wellbeing, talk about goals, and begin building a safe, confidential space where you can speak freely-at your own pace.
2. How do I know if therapy is right for me?
You don't need to be in crisis to benefit from therapy. If you're feeling stuck, overwhelmed, anxious, or simply want to understand yourself better, therapy can offer clarity, support and lasting change.
3. Is everything I say really confidential?
Yes, confidentiality is a cornerstone of therapy. What you share stays between us, with a few rare exceptions (such as risk of serious harm). I'll explain this clearly when we begin, so you feel fully informed and secure.
4. How many sessions will therapy take?
Therapy is a personal journey, some people come for a few sessions, others choose longer term work. We'll regularly check in on your progress to ensure what we're doing continues to support your needs.
5. How long will my session take?
The first session will be shorter with an approximate time of 30 minutes. Subsequent sessions will be 50 minutes with an indicator at 45 minutes. So that we can wind down the meeting in a relaxed manner ready for you to resume your day.
6. What if I don't know what to talk about?
That's perfectly okay. Many clients feel unsure at first. I'll guide the conversation gently and we'll go at a pace that feels right for you. Sometimes just showing up is the first powerful step.
7. What types of therapy do you offer?
I offer an integrated approach to therapy, drawing from a range of models-including cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), psychodynamic insights, and person-centred principles to tailor each session to your unique needs. This means we won't follow a rigid structure; instead, we'll work together to find out what truly helps you grow, heal and move forward.
8. What if I've had a bad experience with therapy before?
I understand how difficult that can be. Not every therapeutic relationship is the right fit. My approach is collaborative, open, and centred around your comfort-there's no pressure, and you set the pace.
9. Do I have to talk about my childhood?
Only if you feel its helpful. While the past can inform the present, therapy doesn't have to focus on childhood unless it feels relevant. We'll focus on what matters most to you, now.
10. How do I get started?
I offer a free 30-minute consultation so we can see if we're a good fit-no pressure, no obligation
